Established by co-founders David Scott Lowe and Rio Miura in 1996, David Rio Chai is an award-winning chai which promotes endangered species programmes, at-risk or vulnerable animals, by naming their flavours after the endangered animals, in fact, they give a portion of proceeds to the protection of animals, making the cause to promote and educate the world about the plight of these animals a real awareness. It was introduced to the Australian market in 2003 by ZEROZ and has grown globally to over 50 countries.
Chai dates back as far as 5000 years and is a very communal relaxing beverage which would vary from one home to the next, with recipes being passed down from generation to generation.
David Rio have removed the complexities of making chai and have created an extremely premium product using real ingredients of tea, evaporated cane sugar and organic spices to create a product that offers consistency and ease for anyone to use, giving the consumer a product, which is smooth to drink every time.

As a part of our corporate philosophy to support animal welfare, David Rio has maintained partnerships with local, regional, and international organizations since 1996.
Cat Tales Zoological Park is dedicated to promoting the preservation of endangered species in general, with a specific focus on endangered exotic and wild cats. Cat Tales is also home to the Zoological Training Centre, which is the only school of its kind in North America and provides additional education opportunities that teach students every aspect of zoo operations and professional animal care.
In 1999, David Rio commemorated their signature Tiger Spice Chai® by adopting and supporting through annual donations a rescued Bengal Tiger named Thor for over 15 years. In June of 2014, our 275kg tiger passed away due to heart failure, and David Rio decided to adopt Thor’s older sibling, Atlas, who also lives at Cat Tales Zoological Park, the birthplace of Thor and their sister, Xena. David Rio maintains close contact with Cat Tales Zoological Park on Atlas’ life and progress.
